Bill Peterson Architect, led by Bill Peterson, Registered Architect & Principal, is an Award-Winning New York City–Based Architecture, Interiors & Creative Services Firm focused on the design and execution of imaginative & pioneering Work, from full-scope building projects and comprehensive interiors to design concept & strategy.

While working at world-class design and construction standards, Peterson’s primary objective is to bring a unique vision to each project, challenging the status quo with fresh concepts, cutting-edge materials & state-of-the art technology to earn critical recognition, stimulate public interest, and elevate the built environment.

For Peterson, the ultimate success of each project depends not only upon its efficient function, superior quality, environmental sustainability, and enduring style, which are essential, but, moreover, its potential to inspire, to capture the imagination, its ‘poetry’.

Peterson endeavors to communicate in a design language that, without artistic compromise, can be appreciated by critics and the public alike, whether in its full complexity, apparent novelty or subjective beauty. To this end, his Work has received significant exposure in both design and mainstream press, local and international.

His projects have been featured by NBC, New York Magazine COVER, The Wall Street Journal, Interior Design Magazine, Elle Decoration UK, I.D. Magazine, The AIA Guide to NYC Architecture, The Guide to Contemporary NYC Architecture, AOL Real Estate, The New York Post, The NY Daily News, Timeout NY, Daily Mail UK, The Good Life (France), Loft Bookazine (Sweden), Curbed, Pinterest, and Houzz, among others. Peterson’s projects have received multiple design awards and award nominations from the likes of the James Beard Foundation.

core values

vision

Dreaming big and going bold without ostentatious results requires both courageous risk-taking and self-conscious restraint. Positioning ourselves at the cutting-edge, we evaluate risks but push through, undeterred, to solutions.

passion

Exhilarated by vision, we work with heart and persistence, going to whatever length, ‘guerilla style’, to brainstorm concepts, research design problems, source materials, and forge relationships with consultants & fabricators to get the job done right. ‘All hands on deck’, we roll up our sleeves, aren’t afraid to get our hands dirty and, when the dust settles, push through to the last finish detail, ‘toolbelt to tuxedo’

integrity

Mastery and refinement of ambitious design concepts, cohesively integrated throughout the design work, is critical to its alignment with the clients or brands it serves. Technical proficiency allows us to execute both grand gestures and subtle details with precision and elegance.

teamwork

Design Projects are a team effort and an outstanding team is essential to an outstanding project. Our team consists of staff, consultants & fabricators who take pride in their work and derive satisfaction from a job well done. Over the years, that team has included Cirque du Soleil’s set engineers, the shop that built the Today Show Set, and the materials research lab used by Nike, among others.

humor

We’re serious about our work but try not to take ourselves too seriously, remembering to enjoy the often rigorous process, remain open to criticism, and embrace growth as designs evolve and challenges arise.

bio

Peterson has been passionate about creating & building since childhood. It’s what he does. It’s in his DNA. From an early age, carving doors & windows out of refrigerator boxes, to building his first tiny house in rural Georgia at the age of 10, he, after apprenticeships in fine woodworking and machine shops, went on to attend Tulane University in New Orleans to obtain his Bachelor & Master of Architecture Degrees. The following fall, he moved to New York and, like others before, never used his return ticket. He began his professional career in the offices of Diller + Scofidio, Stephen Miller Seigel & S. Russell Groves, working on a range of projects from art installations to luxury residential & retail projects before getting his professional license and venturing out on his own.

"Peterson... attacks design problems with the alacrity of a scientist."
